Even the younger race fans got a true taste of fast racing action on the clay surface of the Seymour Tri-Oval on Sunday night.

The Street Stocks took the track for their feature but ran into trouble on the opening lap with several cars involved. Over the next couple laps, the caution continued to fly as the cars could not keep straight. After another restart on lap 3, Dan Ambrosius was the leader until point leader, Darren Otto, took over with Phil Hiles right on his heels.

Otto hooked up high and Hiles was running tight to the inside. The pair swapped the lead a couple times before a final caution for debris on the track set up a time limit shortened 2 lap dash to the finish.

Hiles took the white flag as the leader, but Otto was right alongside. It was a final lap drag race with Otto getting an edge out of the Tri Oval and taking his 4th feature flag of the season by a bumper at the finish line. Ambrosius completed his best run of the season in third. Joe Johnson took fourth with Dan Lecker and Jamie Van Ooyen rounding out the top six.

The tough Bay-Tek IMCA Stock Car division was next and clicked off a non-stop feature event. Chaz Van Ooyen took the initial lead with Mike Franzke, Jamie Colwell, Chris Lange, Tyler Rassmussen and Rick Mahlberg right behind.

The entire field stayed bunched through the first half of the race while the point leaders worked their way from the middle of the field. Jeremy Christians led the charge with Rod Snellenberger, Kyle Fredrick, Larry Karcz, Jr and point leader, Brandon Czarapata, right behind.

Christians moved into the top spot by Van Ooyen on lap 10. Over the next 3 laps, Czarapata, hooked tight to the inside, moved from 4th to the lead. Christians hung right behind until the final couple laps when lapped traffic came into the picture and spread the lead pack a bit. Czarapata took his fourth feature flag of the season and increased his slight point lead to 3 points over Christians, with 2 point nights left this season for the division. Christians finished second with Snellenberger third. Fredrick, Colwell and Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.

Several cautions slowed the start of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature. Kyle Meyers led the first 3 laps, with Jared Siefert taking over the top spot on lap 4. After a debris caution one lap later, the green was out for a quick 5 lap run. Siefert continued to set the pace, but was shadowed by Brian Drexler. Benji LaCrosse broke out of the pack and quickly moved up with the leaders with Lance Arneson following right behind.

A final caution on lap 11 set up a 9 lap sprint to the finish. Siefert continued to lead with the field bunched for the run in second. LaCrosse took second and pulled up on the leader. Arneson and point leader, Scott Mullen, worked by Drexler over the next 2 laps. Siefert was able to hold a couple length lead to the finish for his first Tri Oval feature win of the season. LaCrosse took runner-up points with Mullen taking third, Arneson fourth, Drexler fifth and Travis Spaulding rounding out the top six.

The Maplewood Shell WISSOTA Late Models put 20 cars on the grid and clicked off another non-stop feature event. Terry Casey found his favorite groove, smooth and fast as he took to the outside on the green flag and powered into the lead. Casey took off to leave the race for second as the place to watch. Gary Nelson grabbed the runner up spot on the start with Mark Mitchell, Randy Markwardt, Troy Springborn and Ralph Aschenbrenner behind. Gordie Seegert and point leader, Tim Buhler, worked their way to the group by lap 8.

Casey was pulling away at the front, already lapping some the field. The lapped traffic came into play over the final 5 laps, and spread out the bunch running for second. Casey cruised to his second feature win of the season. Springborn nipped Nelson at the finish line for the season place finish. Seegert and Buhler crossed next with Nick Anvelink rounding out the top six.

The 4 Cylinders closed out the program with a couple cautions over the first 2 laps, shuffling the field. The action was spiced when several cars came out of the tri oval on lap 2, got together and saw Ryan Lufter roll over. He quickly climbed out of the car with a jump and a wave, but was done for the race.

Ben Daoust took the top spot for the next 3 laps before Matt Oershovich took the lead on lap 5. He was pulling away a bit when the car slowed briefly on the back chute which allowed D.J. Jorgenson to move into the lead. Tim Jorgenson moved right behind in second for 1 lap before Matt Maleport took second. Maleport dropped off the pace on the final lap leaving D.J. to collect his first ever Tri Oval feature win. Oershovich ended up finishing in the runner up spot with R.J. Vande Hei taking third. Matt Gilson, Maleport and Jim Roffers round out the top six.

Three regular night remain on the 2004 schedule with the Labor Day weekend ending with a two day event. Sunday September 5 will be the final point night for the IMCA Mods, WISSOTA Late Models, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Also, the return of the Bar VS Law race.

Then, racing returns on Labor Day, with the WDLMA late Models coming in to close out the season. The Mods, Stock Cars, Streets and 4 Cylinders will also be there in a non-sanctioned program. Racing on Monday will start at 5PM.

This will be the final race on the unique Tri Oval, as the track is scheduled to be changed after this season. Advance tickets can be purchased from your favorite drivers for this race to save $2 for the Monday admission.
