May 9, 2004; Seymour, WI - Almost three inches of rain made for an iffy day Sunday, but N.E.W. DIRT made some adjustments to sneak in a full night of racing at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway.
Corey Lemirande set the pace in the Bay-Tek IMCA Stock Car main with Jason Czarapata, Jon Corchaire Shawn Kilgore, Brandon Czarapata, Larry Karcz, Jr and Jamie Colwell falling in behind. Lemirande held the top spot through the first half of the race with Brandon Czarapata taking over second on lap 6. Jason Czarapata held third with Jeremy Christians and Tyler Rasmussen making their way into the top five. Brandon had been working on the leader for several laps and finally worked inside out the tri oval for the lead on lap 12. Once in front, he pulled away leaving the battle for second place to watch. Lemirande had Jason and Christians right behind for most of the second half of the race with Christians finally edging into second with 4 laps remaining. He was able to close a bit on the leader, but Brandon picked up his first checker of the year with Christians second. Jason Czarapata held off Larry Karcz, Jr and Lemirande for third place with Rasmussen rounding out the top six. Streets were next with Phil Hiles on the pole after problems last week. Hiles grabbed the lead and walked away from the field leaving the battle for second place. Joe Johnson, Shawn Van Ooyen, Brian Ambrosius, Joe Van Ooyen and Darci Czarapata tucked in behind Johnson. Positions were swapped several times among the group with Johnson holding the runner up spot through lap 18 of the non stop race. Darren Otto had joined the mix 5 laps from the end and a split pass be Van Ooyen and Otto on lap 19 for second dropped Johnson back a couple spots. Hiles drove off unchallenged for his first feature win of the year. Shawn Van Ooyen held off Otto for the runner up finish. Ambrosius Jamie Van Ooyen and Darci Czarapata round out the top six finishers. The Maplewood WISSOTA Late Models took to the track with Mark Mitchell taking charge after an opening lap caution. Nick Anvelink, T.J. White, Luke Roffers, Troy Springborn and Tom Naeyaert dropped in behind. Mitchell ran out front while Anvelink and Roffers battle for second. The pair were pressuring Mitchell for the lead through lap 10. Out of the Tri Oval on the next lap, Mitchell lost the handle briefly, to allow Roffers and Anvelink the easy pass. Roffers led for the next 3 laps before Anvelink got a jump out of turn two on lap 15 to take the lead on the back chute. Anvelink controlled the top spot to the finish for his first win of the year. Mitchell came back on the final lap, through lapped traffic to take second place over Roffers. Springborn and Terry Anvelink were next in line with Pete Parker rounding out the top 6. Mike Cole took charge of the Budweiser IMCA Mod main and led through a series of cautions on lap 5. On the restart, last weeks winner, Scott Mullen pulled off the double pass to take the lead with Cole, Jared Siefert, Benji LaCrosse Lance Arneson and Mike Wedelstadt right behind. The pack stayed bunched with Wedelstadt working his way through the pack to second on lap 11. After a final caution on lap 14, Wedelstadt powered into the top spot on lap 16 and drove off with his first checker of the season. Mullen held on for the runner up finish with Cole taking third. LaCrosse, Arneson and Siefert rounded out the top six. After a caution filled 4 Cylinder race on opening night, the drivers ran non stop tonight with Tom Schmidt leading the way for the first 5 laps before James Vanden Bogart took over the top spot. By lap 10, Greg Banker and Jasper Drengler had moved into second and third and the top three pulled away from the pack while starting to work through lapped traffic. The trio ran tight over the final laps with Banker making a final lap try on the outside with contact with the leader out of the tri oval. Vanden Bogart held on for his first win of the season with Banker in second and Drengler taking third. Schmidt took fourth with D.J. Jorgensen fifth and Tim Jorgensen sixth. Next week, the Flintstone Race for the drivers returns for the second annual running. SUMMARY BUDWEISER IMCA MODIFDIED 20 Lap Feature l. Mike Wedelstadt, Hortonville 2. Scott Mullen , Seymour 3.
