August
21, 2005; Seymour, WI - Several inches of rain and much cooler
temps made for a fast track and comfortable night for racing Sunday at the Seymour
Speedway. A large field of 142 cars checked in to do battle in addition to 3 buses for the
Swinkles Bus Race.

A.J. Diemel ran to his third straight
and fifth feature win of the seaosn Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway in
the
Maplewood Shell /Ponderosa WISSOTA Late Models division.
MAPLEWOOD SHELL/PONDEROSA WISSOTA Late
Model feature race leader #7x Tim Lemirande, Verona, gave up his advantage to a
hard-charging #58 A.J. Diemel, Navarino, after a lap 15 restart in the main event.
In the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature
#1 Scott Mullen powered into the top spot on lap four and was able to hold off challenges
of #03 Brad Rohloff through the end of the tightly contested feature.
Larry Karcz, Jr. won his second
feature of the season Sunday night in IMCA Stock Car action. It also capped a triple win
weekend after winning at Antigo on Friday night and Shawano on Saturday.
A three-way battle for the lead put
race fans on the edge of their seats on Sunday night as #36 Larry Karcz Jr., #10 Rod
Snellenberger and #67 Jesse Colwell battled for the IMCA Stock Car feature race lead.
Karcz took his second feature win of the season, Snellenberger took second with Colwell,
fourth.
The Street Stock feature was just as
exciting with #17s Harley Simon and #74 Eric Arneson going wheel-to-wheel, but it
wasnt for the win until after the race was
completed. Crossing the line first, Mike Kudick was DQd following post race
inspection, giving the win to Simon, which was his third victory of the season.
Arneson, ended a season long battle with bad luck with a strong second place finish.
Jeremy Wiitala finished third in the
feature race, and along with his 2005 season points lead since the second week of the
season, was able to lock up his first Seymour track title before next weeks final
point night.
Joe Van Ooyen won his first race of
the seaosn Sunday night taking his heat race in the Street Stocks.
#66 Scott Ronski of Neenah won the
Swinkles Bus Race.
Scott Ronski (L) drove the bus owned
by Chris Price (R) to the first ever Bus Race win at Seymour.

In the 4-Cylinder feature a three-wide
battle for position spelled the end of the night for outside challenger #75 Matt
Oreskovich and inside competitor #17 Greg Banker after crashing on the backstretch. #8
Tony Everard (center) was able to continue and finished second to a dominating race leader
Tim Jorgenson. |
An opening lap incident put the IMCA Stock Car point leader, Jamie Colwell out of
the race, leaving an open opportunity for movement with one point night remaining. Jesse
Colwell took the lead for 3 laps with Larry Karcz, Jr, Rod Snellenberger and Don Dix
making a four wide run for the lead. Karcz took the top spot on lap 4 with Snellenberger
moving right behind. A lap 7 caution put Jason Czarapata and Kyle Fredrick right in the
thick of the front runners. After the restart, Karcz and Snellenberger pulled away from
the field as Colwell, Czarapata and Fredrick hooked up in a tight battle for third. By lap
15, Fredrick was in third with Czarapata in fourth with a perfect opportunity to re-take
the point lead with Colwell out.
But, on the final lap, Czarapatas car stopped on the back chute after a cloud of
smoke dropping him to 17th.
Karcz took his second feature win of the season and completed a weekend division sweep,
winning Friday in Antigo, and Saturday in Shawano. Snellenberger took second with Fredrick
third. Colwell was fourth. Dix and Steve Frees rounded out the top six.
The finish made a 2 car run for the track title change to a 5 car race entering next weeks
final point night. Jamie Colwell and Czarapata are now tied at 348 each. Snellenberger is
still third but only 4 back with 344. Fredrick is fourth with 337 and Karcz is fifth with
332. These 5 drivers have accounted for every feature win this season in the division so
the 2005 title is really up for grabs.
The Street Stock feature was next with Eric Arneson taking the lead followed by Shawn Van
Ooyen, Joe Van Ooyen, Dan McAllister, Paul White, Bill Kelsey and David Hoerning. Hoerning
took to the outside and moved up into the top spot on lap 4 and set out to run away from
the field.
By mid way, Hoerning had checked out on the field with Arneson holding onto second with
Harley Simon, point leader, Jeremy Wiitala, Joe Van Ooyen and Mike Kudick in a tight
battle for the runner up spot.
It looked like a non stop main until the final lap. Hoerning had the field covered until
the right rear wheel broke off out of turn two, brining out the caution for the only time.
Kudick had moved into second with Simon, Arneson, Wiitala and McAllister in line.
With the race ending a lap early, Hoerning was the cause of the caution and dropped to
17th. Kudick was DQ"d following post race inspection, giving the win to Simon, which
was his third victory of the season. Arneson, ended a season long battle with bad luck,
with a strong second place finish. Wiitala was third McAllister fourth. Mike Pierrard had
to come from the 18th starting spot after coming through the consy to finish 5th, and Joe
Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.
Wiitala has lead the standings since the second week of the season and with the third
place finish locks up his first Seymour track title before next weeks final point night.
Tim Lemirande took off from the front row into the lead of the Maplewood Shell/ Ponderosa
WISSOTA Late Model feature with Doug Blashe, Ron Berna, A.J. Diemel, Gordie Seegert and
Justin Richie behind. By the mid point of the race, Lemirande was starting to lap car with
Diemel right behind looking for a gap on the inside. Lemirande had to move from the top
groove into Diemels line to work through traffic. Lemirande moved back up after a couple
laps and was maintaining a lead until the lone caution of the race appeared on lap 15.
Diemel was able to wrestle the lead on the restart and drove to his 5th feature win of the
season. Lemirande was holding second until the final lap when Luke Roffers and Terry
Anvelink were able to get by when he drifter up in turn three to finish fourth. Blashe and
Nick Anvelink rounded out the top six.
Diemel holds a commanding 36 point lead although the Late models are the only division to
have 2 point nights remaining.
Scott Boyea set the pace for the first 3 laps of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature
before Scott Mullen powered into the top spot on lap 4. Benji LaCrosse followed into
second a lap later and Brad Rohloff joined the leaders on lap 8. Several cautions slowed
the race and kept the field tight.
Mullen was running the outer line. LaCrosse was trying both inside and outside to get an
advantage until something broke on the right front on lap 10, ending his race. Rohloff was
next, trying the inside line. A lap 14 caution put Russ Huxford into third. Point leader,
Jared Siefert was able to move into fourth with R.M. Van Pay, Jamie Schmidt and Todd Dart
now right behind. A final caution on lap 16 set up a 4 lap dash to the finish. Mullen was
able to hold off Rohloff to officially take his first feature win of the season. Rohloff
took second with Siefert right behind and Van Pay was fourth. Jeremie Hedrick came through
traffic over the final couple laps to take fifth. Huxford rounded out the top six.
Siefert can clinch his first Seymour modified track title by qualifying for the main next
week.
Several cautions plagued the 4 Cylinder main with the worst one a lap 6 incident after a
restart. Tim Jorgenson was leading from the first lap and after the restart, Tony Everard,
Greg Banker and point leader, Matt Oreskovich were trying to move quickly up on the
leader. They cars excited turn 2 three wide with Jeff Kropp right in front of them. There
was contact in the bunch and the cars slid into the outer wall. The impact slid several of
the blocks back and required a quick repair. Banker and Oreskovich were out of the race.
Jorgenson held the lead and ran to his second straight feature win. Everard took second
with Kropp in third. Justin Kimble, Ben Daoust and Kevin Birr make the top six. Despite
his second DNF this season, Oreskovich still holds a 12 point lead over Banker for the
title.
Scott Ronski of Neenah won the Bus Race.
Next week will be the final point night for the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks,
IMCA Stock Cars and 4 Cylinders. The Stock Car, Street Stock Challenge will be run
following the features.
The Wissota Late Models will run points through the final race of the season on Sunday
September 4th. That race will be a regular program with all five divisions competing.
