July
24, 2005; Seymour, WI - A hot and steamy day greeted drivers and
fans Sunday at the Seymour Speedway. Fans that braved the weather were treated to a very
competitive night of racing on the 1/3 mile oval.
The IMCA Stock Cars took the track for the feature with Nathan Persha leading the
opening lap with Kyle Wanner leading the way on lap 2. As the pack came through turn 2 on
lap 3, the leaders made contact with the resulting crash putting Wanners car on its
roof. He was not injured, but was out of the race.
Steve Frees inherited the lead for the restart with Kyle Frederick, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jamie
Colwell, Larry Karcz, jr, Persha and Steve Kastning behind. The lead pack of 6 cars pulled
ahead in a great battle for the lead that lasted until a final caution on lap 11. Frees
was still holding the top spot followed by Colwell, Fredrick, Karcz, Van Ooyen, Kastning
and Jason Czarapata.
Colwell took the top spot on lap 13 with Fredrick following into second. The pair ran side
by side for 6 laps with Czarapata, Frees and Kastning right behind. With 2 laps left,
Colwell made a slight mis cue which gave Fredrick enough of an opening to take over the
lead and hold off Czarapata to win his first feature here since July 27, 2003. Colwell
held on for third place followed by Kastning, Frees and Eric Malfroid.
Jerry Stueber led the opening round of the Street Stock main with Eric Arneson taking over
for a pair of laps before a clod of smoke from his car forced him off the track, giving
the lead to Aaron Melchert. Joe Van Ooyen, Brian Ambrosius, Rick Naparalla and point
leader Jeremy Wiitila and David Hoerning pulled up on the leader. Stueber did a great jab
holding the top spot until a caution on lap 12. Wiitala was able to wrestle the lead away
on the restart with Hoerning pulling into second. The pair ran side by side with Hoerning
leading a couple laps before Wiitala took control and drove to his second feature win of
the season. Hoerning, Ambrosius, Mike Pierrard, Naparalla and Dereck Lecker round out the
top six.
Terry Anvelink led the opening 2 circuits of the Maplewood Shell / Ponderosa WISSOTA Late
Model main. Following a lone race caution on lap 3 for a spin. Gordie Seegert took over
the lead and started to build a slight lead. A.J. Diemel moved into second and stayed a
couple lengths back of the leader. Seegert looked strong at the front but after half way,
Diemel started to chip into the lead and slowly worked to the outside of Seegert on lap
14. Diemel took over the top spot 2 laps later and drove away from the field for his
second straight division feature win. Seegert 5took the runner up spot with Luke Roffers
winning the battle with Anvelink and Tim Lemirande for third. Troy Springborn rounded out
the top six.
Chad Wilcox was the early leader in the Budweiser IMCA Modified main with Jared Siefert
taking over the top spot after a lap 3 restart. Art Siefert followed into the runner up
spot with Mike Klenz, Jerod Anvelink, Wilcox and Lance Arneson behind. Jared was able to
pull a lead over the field and was able to maintain the lead after a lap 8 restart. The
battle for the runner up spot was exciting to watch with 6 cars exchanging positions
running up to 3 wide.
By lap 14, R.M. Van Pay, Making his first run here this season, moved from the rear of the
field into 4th place. The pack also closed in on the leader before another pair of
cautions late in the race set up a 2 lap dash. Siefert was able to hold off the charges to
win his second straight and third feature this season. Van Pay took the runner up spot
with Wilcox fighting back into third. Art Siefert was fourth Dennis Young ran to firth
with Klenz rounding out the top six.
Brian Johnson led the first 2 laps of the 4 Cylinder main. Following a restart on lap 3,
point leader Matt Oershovich took over the top spot and drove away from the field. A lap
10 caution bunched the field, but Oershovich was able to pull away again and collected his
4th feature win this season. In a tight race for second. Greg Banker won the battle with
Brad Willoquette. Dan Daoust, Johnson and Mark Krause round out the top six.
Justin Sobiak was the winner for the Bar Tenders in the Bar VS Law event.
Next week will be Scout and 4-H night at the Seymour Speedway.
All Scouts, 4-H members and leaders in uniform will be admitted free next Sunday.
