Seymour, WI - N.E.W. DIRT battled tough
track conditions for the first part of the show Sunday night, but by
feature time some tight last lap excitement gave the hearty fans top
notch entertainment at the Seymour Speedway.
The IMCA Stock Cars ran the first feature event. Eventual
winner, Rod Snellenberger, was involved in one of the numerous
cautions during the race. On lap 3, last weeks winner, Larry Karcz,
Jr, had the engine expire on the front chute. IN the heavy smoke,
Snellenberger rear ended the car of Lee Bailey. They were locked
together, but Snellenberger was able to continue after the
separation. On the ensuing restart, Snellenberger pulled outside and
passed 2 rows three wide taking the lead by the completion of the
next lap. He outlasted a couple more cautions to win the time limit
shortened race, his first feature flag of the season. Mike Pierrard
took second followed by Troy Jerovetz, Kyle Fredrick, Jeremy
Christians and Tony Schlei.
Jasper Drengler paced the first 3 laps of the Street Stock main
before the engine quit during a caution which turned the lead over
to Kyle Kudick. David Hoerning and Fred Davister were behind the
leader and after a final caution on lap 7, Davister was able to
wrestle the top spot away. Kudick and Hoerning stayed right behind
Davister as the trio pulled away from the pack. As the leaders
entered turn four for the white flag, Davisters car erupted in a
cloud a smoke. Kudick pulled inside on the final lap and raced side
by side to the finish line with Davister taking the checker as the
engine died. Kudick took second followed by Hoerning. Todd Everard,
Jerry Kope and Harley Simon rounded out the top six.
Randy Markwardt took off to lead the WISSOTA Late Model feature with
Justin Ritchie, Rod Snellenberger Pete Parker and Terry Anvelink
behind. Snellenberger pulled behind Markwardt on lap 3. With the
leaders bunched< Parker was running the low line looking for an
opening. He was finally able to work into second on lap 9 and
continued to run low with Markwardt working the outside line and
holding the lead. Terry Anvelink moved right behind the leaders on
lap 11. Markwardt held his line while the pair of veteran pilots
worked for position. Parker patiently took the top spot on lap 14
with Markwardt left to deal with Anvelink. A lone caution on lap 17,
bunched the pack for a final 3 lap sprint. Anvelink moved into
second on the outside and continued to pass Parker for the lead
before another lap was logged. Anvelink held off Parker for the
final couple laps to secure his first feature win at Seymour since
July 7, 2002. Ritchie took third with last week winner, Tim Buhler
taking 4th. Snellenberger and Markwardt rounded out the top six.
The IMCA Modified main started 24 cars with Jamie Schmidt taking
control with Brian Drexler, David Werbelow, Eric Mullen, Scott
Mullen and Jay Matthias behind. Several cautions kept the pack
bunched on the leader throughout the race, but Schmidt was strong
running the high line. By mid way, Scott Mullen was holding the
runner up spot with Werbelow, Matthias, Benji LaCrosse and Jared
Siefert behind.
After a couple more laps, Werbelow and LaCrosse were side by side in
second, hounding Schmidt for the lead. After a final restart with 3
laps left, Schmidt continued to lead. On the final lap, he slipped a
bit out of the second turn and LaCrosse took the opportunity to get
to the inside entering turn three. The pair exited turn 4 side by
side with LaCrosse getting the bite out of the turn to win his
second straight feature by a half car length over Schmidt. Werbelow
was third with Chad Wilcox taking fourth over Scott Mullen. Siefert
was sixth.
Kevin Birr set the pace for the first 2 laps of the 4 Cylinder main
with Matt Oreskovich moving up to take the lead on lap 3. Tim
Jorgensen moved into the runner up spot 2 laps later and chased the
leader through traffic for the rest of the non-stop race. Oreskovich
took his first feature win of the season with Jorgensen second.
Chris Quaintance secured third place with D.J. Jorgensen making his
first run of the season taking 4th. Ben Daoust and Ian Lassanske
rounded out the top six.
Next week the 4 Cylinder Bump and Run event will top the nights
activities.
