June
18, 2006;
Seymour, WI - Despite a heavy, brief shower
an hour before race time, N.E.W. DIRT persevered and completed a
full program Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway. A field of 139
cars raced before a nice Fathers Day crowd.
It took a couple tries to get the first lap scored in the
Street Stock main with Ron Otto finally setting the pace for the
first 3 laps before Kyle Kudick flew into the top spot and ran the
rest of the race pulling away from the field to what appeared to be
his second straight feature win. On lap 6, David Hoerning had moved
from the back of the pack to the runner up spot and started to
slowly close the gap on the leader. Kudick started lapping traffic
on lap 11 and was able to hold his huge lead to the finish. However,
following the race, Kudick refused and engine claim and was DQ’d
moving Hoerning to the win, his first of the season. Brian Koch took
third, point leader, Harley Simon was fourth Jeremy Wiitala fifth
and Bill Kelsey sixth.
Darren Otto burst from the front row into the lead of the IMCA Stock
Car main with Derrick Bruechert, Eric Malfroid, Jeremy Christians
and Jamie Colwell behind. Otto was starting to build a slight lead
when a lone caution bunched the field on lap 5.
On the restart, Christians moved into the runner up spot and settled
right on Otto’s bumper. The pair started to pull away for the rest
of the race, with Otto able to hold off the constant pressure and
ran to his first career division feature win here in Seymour.
Christians took the close second place finish. Jamie Colwell was
third with Larry Karcz, Jr taking fourth, Rod Snellenberger fifth
and Jesse Colwell sixth.
Following an opening lap caution, the WISSOTA Late Models clicked
off a none stop race with Nick Anvelink taking the lead followed by
Justin Ritchie, Randy Markwardt, John Kaanta, Tom Naeyaert and Pete
Parker. Ritchie challenge the leader hard on the inside and took the
lead on lap 5, with Anvelink again taking first on the following
lap. Kaanta, moved into third and chased down the runner up spot on
lap 8. He continued to the front taking the lead one lap later. Once
in front, Kaanta opened a slight lead while Parker moved up to
battle Anvelink for second. They stayed within striking distance of
the leader until a lapped car caused a squeeze play in turn one on
lap 13, which allowed Kaanta a chance to open a little bigger lead
and run to his first feature win here since June 5, 2003. Anvelink
held off Parker for second Ritchie took fourth with Tim Buhler
taking fifth and Markwardt sixth. Parkers run moved the former 6
time champ into the point lead for the first time this season.
Paul Parker sat on the pole for the IMCA Modified main and quickly
pulled into the top spot. He held the lead through the first 5 laps
despite several cautions that kept the field bunched. On lap 6,
Parkers car broke loose out of turn 4, spinning down the front chute
in front of the oncoming field, There was no contact made but Jarrod
Anvelink inherited the lead with Jerry Wilinski, Brian Drexler,
Chris Engels and Jared Siefert now right behind. Drexler moved to
the inside and moved into the lead on lap 8 with Wilinski following
to second. Wilinski challenged hard on the outside for the final
couple laps in a time limit shortened race, but Drexler took his
first IMCA Modified sanctioned feature win with Wilinski completing
a strong run in second. Brian Mullen came from the middle of the
field to take third with Engels in fourth, point leader, Benji
LaCrosse fifth and Jeremie Hedrick rounding out the top six.
David Beilfuss led the opening 2 circuits of the 4 Cylinder main
despite several cautions that kept the field bunched. Chad Guyette
took over the top spot on lap 3 before Matt Oreskovich squeezed
between the two one lap later to take the lead on lap 4. Once in
front. Oreskovich pulled away to record his 3rd straight feature
win, and moved to second in the point standings. Point leader, Tim
Jorgensen ran second with D.J. Jorgensen taking third. Guyette took
fourth with James Vanden Boogard fifth and Justin Schwister sixth.
The scheduled Mechanics races had to be postponed because of the
late start due to the rain, but will be run next week.
