N.E.W. DIRT officially opened their 24th season on a cool,
breezy night, but the hearty fans were treated to 139 car field that
ran a fast paced program Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway.
Rod Solem grabbed the lead in the Street Stock main with Joe
Johnson, Todd Everard, Ken Woodke and defending champion, Harley
Simon all settling in behind the leader after first few laps.
Everard pulled outside of Johnson for the runner up spot on lap 6
and 3 laps later was after the leader. Solem and Everard ran side by
side for 3 laps as well before Everard secured the top spot on lap
13.
Once in the lead, Everard started to pull away with help from the
rest of the pack as they double up in a tight battle for the next 6
spots.
Everard won his first feature of the season with Solem completing a
strong run in second. Johnson settled for third holding off Darren
Otto, Bill Kelsey and Jeremy Wiitala.
Rod Snellenberger took charge of the Tri County Heating IMCA Stock
Car feature at the start, but Charlie Kroll, Kyle Fredrick, Greg
Gretz, Larry Karcz, Jr and Mike Weitor prevented the defending
division champ from running away with the race. Kroll, Gretz,
Fredrick and Karcz were fighting for position throughout the race
which allowed Snellenberger to open a slight lead a couple times,
only to have a caution bunch up the field. Over the final 5 laps,
Kroll put steady pressure on the leader and was alongside as the
pair took the white flag. A final lap caution ended the tight battle
with a caution giving Snellenberger his first feature win of the
season. Kroll was second with Gretz nipping Karcz at the line for
third. Brian Bruechert had a strong run in fifth with Weitor
rounding out the top six.
Eric Scribner grabbed the lead in the Budweiser IMCA Modified main
with Brian Mullen, Lance Arneson, Benji LaCrosse, Mike Mullen and
Tim Van De Hei all right behind. Mullen kept Scribner right in front
during the early going but as the field sorted out and pulled up on
Mullen, Scribner was able to open a slight lead.
Mullen was busy holding off defending champ, LaCrosse by the mid
point of the contest , with Arneson, Van De Hei and Jared Siefert
right behind.
Over the final laps, Scribner used the tight battle for second to
slip away to record his first career feature win at the Seymour. The
trio of former champs, Mullen, LaCrosse and Siefert were next in the
mix, with Van De Hei and Arneson rounding out the top six.
Justin Hirt set the pace for the Late Model feature for the opening
6 laps before Justin Ritchie powered into the top spot. Ritchie
pulled away and looked like a sure winner until sliding wide in turn
three and slamming the outside wall, ending his race and turning the
lead back to Hirt. Nick Anvelink was running next but dropped out
during the caution. Terry Anvelink was now second followed by Troy
Springborn, Pete Parker and Dan Wanta.
Anvelink took the top spot on the restart with Springborn following
into second 1 lap later. The duo pulled away from the field with
Anvelink holding the inside line and Springborn hooked up outside.
Springborn pulled even with the leader several times over the final
half of the race but was fought back each time. Anvelink took his
first feature on the season with Springborn second. Hirt, Parker,
Jeff Curtain and A.J. Miller round out the top six.
The Sound Check 4 Cylinder main saw Kevin Burr grab the leader for
the first 3 laps before Brad Matuszak went inside and took control.
JJ Anderson was pressuring the leader and inherited the lead on lap
9 when Matuszak started to drop off the pace and faded into the
field. Anderson had a problem as his stint at the lead lasted only 2
laps before dropping off the pace which turned the lead back over to
Birr.
Birr was running right up on the wall, but once in the lead, dropped
down and drove off with his first career feature win here at
Seymour. Tony Everard was closing on the leader over the final
couple laps but ran out of time to challenge and took the runner up
finish. Holly Weich took third with Chad Guyette fourth, Ben Daoust
fifth and Jason Cornelius sixth.
N.E.W. DIRT will be sponsoring the weekly Sunday night programs
every week through Sept 2 at the Seymour Speedway.
