May 4, 2008; Seymour, WI - N.E.W. DIRT opened their 25 th Anniversary season in grand style Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway. A record field of 194 cars in 5 divisions overflowed the pit areas into the parking lot and a good crowd saw a fast paced action filled night of action on the 1/3 mile banked oval.

IMCA Modifed #66 Jared Siefert drew the pole position for the Mod feature, grabbing the early lead over #25R Russ Reinwald on the opening lap. Siefert went on to take his first feature win of the season while Reinwald finished fifth.

#30 Tracy Wassenberg took over the top spot in the main event early on, but it was the persistent challenges of #01 Troy Jerovetz that earned him the first feature win of 2008 for the Northern Sport Mod class. Wassenberg finished third behind Tim Jorgenson

Former 2 time champ, jeremy Christians walked off with the opening night feature Sunday. It was his first feature win here since June 6, 2004.51201b.jpg (17266 bytes)
Former two-time IMCA Stock Car champion, #99x Jeremy Christians battled hard against #57 John Heinz in their feature event. Christians was able to hold off the challenges for his first feature win here since 2004. Heinz held on for second.

The Street Stock feature took to the track first with #28v Matt Vetting and #51Jeremy Wiitala putting on a great show for the fans. Vetting, making his first appearance to the track, claimed the win with Wiitala second.

Andy Kleczka held off Jessi Ness to win his first feature of the season Sunday nigh in 4 Cylinder action.51201b.jpg (17266 bytes)
In the 4-Cylinder feature, #121 Andy Kleczka moved into the top spot with #7 Jessi Ness moving right behind in second. Ness held the lead for the rest of the way, earning his first feature win of the season with Ness right behind.

The Street Stock feature took to the track first with Todd Everard taking the lead with Matt Vetting, John Sternard, defending champion, Jeremy Wiitala and Paul White dropping in behind. Vetting, making his first appearance to the track, pulled alongside the leader for a couple laps and moved into the lead on lap 6. Two laps later, Wiitala moved into the runner up spot and chased down the leader but could not man handle his power steering less car to seriously challenge for the win. Vetting claimed the win with Wiitala second. Everard was third followed by White, Sternard and Ryan Brandes from Chilton.

The IMCA Sport Mods join the weekly program this season and brought a 34 car field for their first outing.

Travis Cain led the opening four laps with Tracy Wassenberg taking over the top spot following the lone caution of the race on lap 5. Troy Jerovetz moved from the middle of the field into the runner up spot at the same time and took 2 more laps to move into the lead. Joe White made his way into second on lap 9 and Tim Jorgenson moved up to make it a 4 car battle one lap later. For the rest of the way, Jerovetz held off the heavy challenges to become the first official division feature winner. White finished second but failed to report to the claim area after the race moving Jorgenson into the second place finish. Wassenberg was third, Eric Arneson fourth, Mike Czarapata fifth and Brian Besaw rounding out the top six.

Former 2 time IMCA Stock Car champion, Jeremy Christians, grabbed the lead in their feature run at the start with John Heinz, Barry Van Straten, Dave Budzban, Chaz Van Ooyen and Kyle Wanner filling in behind. Christians and Heinz pulled ahead of the field over the first half of the race when defending champion, Rod Snellenberger broke from the packed field into third. A lone caution on lap 9 bunched the field for a thrilling battle to the finish.

After the green appeared, Heinz dove to the inside and took the lead. Snellenberger made a three wide attempt at the leaders on the following lap, but Christians continued strong on the outside and re-took the top spot. The battle was tight for the rest of the way, with Christians able to hold off the challenge for his first feature win here since June 6, 2004. Heinz held on for second. Kyle Frederick made a strong run over the final 2 laps to nip Snellenberger for the third place finish. Wanner took fifth and Shawn Havel rounded out the top six.

Defending IMCA Mod champion, Jared Siefert, drew the pole for the feature and took charge from the start. Russ Reinwald, Mike Mashl, Tim Van De Hei, Benji LaCrosse and Eddie Muenster dropped in behind. Siefert was able to open a lead while the field shuffled for position behind. LaCrosse broke from the pack first on lap 5 and 2 laps later, Brian Mullen pulled free and the pair took off to chase down Siefert. With no cautions to help out, LaCrosse and Mullen slowly erased some of the lead but ran out of laps to challenge for the top spot. Siefert took his first feature win of the season with LaCrosse and Mullen closing in behind. Sean Jerovetz won a tight battle behind to finish 4th. Reinwald and Muenster rounded out the top six.

The 4 Cylinders closed out the night with Jon Duesing taking the lead for the opening lap. Jake Wilcox took charge 1 lap later and on lap 4, Logan Sobieck was in front. Following a couple of cautions, Andy Kleczka moved into the top spot with Jessi Ness moving right behind in second. Ness challenge the leader for the rest of the way, but Kleczka secured his first feature win of the season with Ness right behind. Tony Everard made a run at the leaders over the final 4 laps, but took the third spot. Jason Cornelius, Calvin Stueck and Ralph Liegeois rounded out the top six.

The club would like to THANK everyone for their co-operation in running a quick, orderly show to get all races in under curfew.

Weekly racing action will continue every Sunday night through September 14, and close with a special on Saturday Sept 20.
