 at Seymour Speedway!

By Dave Panske

July 20, 2008; Seymour, WI - With only 2 cautions during the 5 features, a fast paced show produced 2 more first time feature winners and a pair approaching 50 wins for N.E.W. DIRT Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway.

The Street Stocks took the track first with Bob Czarapata taking charge leading the first 4 circuits before Derek Lecker used the inside line to the lead on lap 5. A lone caution on lap 10 bunched the pack and made for some very tight action for the final half of the contest.

In the Badger Racing Association feature action, #37L Scott Bushman was just able to hold off the constant pressure of #66k Lee Johnson for the race lead. The crowd was treated to some great racing action as Bushman went on for the win. The race was in preparation for their full program coming to the track on Friday, August 15, during the Motorcycle Show and Swap meet weekend.

Lecker continued to set the pace followed by Czarapata, Aaron Melchert, Paul White, Phil Hiles, Jeremy Wiitala and Harley Simon.

The pack behind the leader ran three wide several times with White finally breaking into the runner up spot on lap 13, and continued to the front on the next lap. Once in control, White pulled away for the final laps leaving the battle for second. White collected his first career feature win and also took over the division point lead for the first time this season. Lecker took the battle for second with Wiitala and Simon sneaking into the top 4 on the final lap. Melchert and Hiles rounded out the top six.

Larry Delemater set the pace for the first 2 laps of the IMCA Stock Car contest. The field quickly bunched up on the smooth fast track three and four wide behind with point leader, Rod Snellenberger, taking the extreme outside line to move into second as Bob Schampers moved into the lead on lap 2. Snellenberger stayed outside and pulled into the lead on lap 5 and never looked back as he was able to pull away and collected his 5th feature win of the season. By the mid point of the race, Kyle Frederick, Schampers, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jr, John Heinz and Chris Lange were running behind.

The top 4 remained unchanged at the finish with Kyle Wanner taking 5th and Heinz rounding out the top six.

The win by Snellenberger was his 5th this season and moves his all time division win lead to 47.

A lone caution on the second lap of the IMCA Mod feature set up another three and four wide contest once the green appeared. Chad Wilcox was the leader for the first 2 laps with Scott Mullen using the inside line to the front for 2 laps. Brian Mullen emerged from the tight pack to second on lap 4 and one lap later was in front of the field and started to open a lead.

Brian was still in control at the mid point with Scott holding second. Benji LaCrosse was third, Mike Mullen fourth, Wilcox and Mike Mashl behind.

Over the final half of the race, Brian continued to pull away and even with lapped traffic over the final 5 laps, never looked back to win his second feature of the season and his 49th career division feature win at his home track. The race for second was active to the finish with Mike Mullen able to sneak by LaCrosse on the final lap for second. Scott Mullen was fourth Julie McDermid and Mashl rounded out the top six.

Dean DeKeyser grabbed the lead in the 4 Cylinder main and opened a big lead over the first half of the race while the field sorted out behind. Brandon Long, Jessi Ness, Tony Everard, Jason Cornelius, and Kevin Birr made the top six at the mid point of the race. For the third straight feature event, a flat tire took DeKeyser out of the race on lap 12, turning the lead over to Long. Ness was right behind and over the final laps, the pair pulled away from the field. Long was able to hold the lead to collect his first career feature win with Ness pressing to finish second. Birr was able to get by Everard for third with Josh Novak and Jamie Miller rounding out the top six.

The fifth division this week was an exhibition run by the Badger Racing Motorcycle group, in preparation for their full program coming to the track on Friday, August 15, during the Motorcycle Show and Swap meet weekend. A field of 13 bikes in 2 divisions ran with Brothers Scott and Adam Bushman each winning their heat race and Scott winning a tight battle for the feature win.

This week will be a busy one with the Outagamie County Fair in progress. Racing will take place for the first time in several years on Sunday night at 6 PM, with the FASTRAK Late Models joining the Budweiser IMCA Mods, IMCA Stock Cars, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders.

There will be a special event run in the afternoon. The second annual Compact Car Double Figure 8 will be run at 1 PM on the front straight.

Weekly Sunday racing then continues through September 14 with a special Saturday, September 20 program to close the season.
